Survivor乐队[1]早年由JimPeterik（键盘手）,Gary Smith和DennisKeithJohnson,DaveBickler,Frankie Sullivan组成。Dave Bickler担任主唱。 Stephan 和MarcDroubay随后加入。

第一张正式专辑《Premonition》在1981年推出。

乐队随即在1982年应西尔维斯特史泰龙为电影《洛奇3》作主题曲《eye of the tiger》，并且推出同名专辑《eye of the tiger》。

此曲一举夺得本年格莱美奖并且荣获多项最佳单曲奖项，将survivor乐队推到了顶峰。

但在1983年乐队主唱Dave Bickler进行了喉部手术后，Jimi Jamison应survivor乐队邀请并加入乐队，担任主唱（1984-1989）。

乐队随后在1985年应西尔维斯特史泰龙之邀继续为电影《洛奇4》作曲并演唱《Burningheart》。
